Bridges Blog

In honor of volunteer month, our Victoria Bridges Volunteer 'Marc' wrote a great article on volunteerism for our blog. Check it out below!

Volunteering provides me with freedom from obligation and gives me a great sense of purpose. Anytime you enjoy a recreational activity, like being outside or spending time with others, it's important to know that those times are what living is all about. Outside of work and school (those can be fun!), what you choose when you are free to do whatever you want is what really defines you. In my own experience volunteering has introduced me to some of the greatest people in my life, and has provided some of the greatest times I've ever had. While the only thing you may be giving up is time, I always feel like wherever I help out it completely reciprocated back to me. Whatever help I provide comes back to help myself, by making me feel happy and accomplished. These beneficial feelings that can be felt from simply helping out will create an overall sense of well-being, and trickle into other parts of your life. It puts time and energy into perspective, and alleviates the feeling of "being on the clock". Overall, it's the people you encounter that make volunteering such a blast. There are always ample places to help out, regardless of where you live and what you can offer, so why not make some new friends and open some doors to life!
