Vancouver - Let's Advocate Workshop

Bridges to the Future Vancouver February Event
Topic: Let's Advocate (an advocacy workshop)
 
Date: Saturday, February 26, 2011
Time: 1pm-330pm
Location: Riley Park Community Centre, E30th Avenue and Ontario, Vancouver, BC (map: www.rileypark.ca/contact)
Description: Building on the success of the January Bridges event where youth set goals for themselves, the February Bridges event will provide tools and skills to youth to enable them to advocate for themselves in the community. Chris Hofley, our Guest Speaker, will talk about his success with advocacy in the community. Youth will received an advocacy workbook, published by Muscular Dystrophy Canada, and gain skills to advocate for themselves. Youth who have advocated for themselves in the past are encouraged to attend to share their experiences and knowledge.
In addition to learning about advoccy, Bridges youth will network, socialize and munch on snacks!

Transportation directions:Parking is available around the community centre which is located at the South East corner of E30th and Ontario.
Expo/Millenium Line: From Main Street Station (at Main and Terminal), take 3 MAIN (heading south) to E33rd avenue. Walk from E33rd and Main to E30th and Ontario (10 minutes)
Canada Line: Get off at King Edward Station at King Edward and Cambie. Walk to 30th and Ontario (15 minutes) Please contact Kim (kim.stewart@muscle.ca) for futher directions or if you have any concerns.

2.       Interested in learning more about Clinical trials and research regarding Muscular Dystrophy? Muscular Dystrophy Canada is organizing an Webinar (you log in on your computer at home) on Wednesday, February 23, 2011 from 3-4pm (Pacific Time). 4.       Goal Setting 101 (Vancouver) – Have you RSVP’ed for this Bridges to the Future Vancouver event? Saturday, Jan 29, 2011 at Riley Park Community Centre (E30th Ave and Ontario in Vancouver) from 10am – 1230. Meet other youth, learn about setting S.M.A.R.T. goals, set your own goals, and enjoy Tim Hortons! More details can be found here: www.bridgestothefuture.ca/events.html . 5.       “Storytelling in the Performing Arts” presented by Realwheels and Vancouver Adapted Music Society (poster attached to this e-mail). Guest professional actors, singers and dancers with disabilities will lead the group through fun improve exercises, musical jams and dances. People of all abilities are welcome to join in this free opportunity, with no experience or training necessary. This will take place every Wednesday evening from January 19 until April 6, 630-8pm, in the Gymnsium at the GF Strong rehab centre (Vancouver, BC).
