Volunteer Opp - MuscleFacts Peer Facilitator!

VOLUNTEER SEARCH

MuscleFacts Peer Facilitators

Muscular Dystrophy Canada is searching for individuals who have been touched by Muscular Dystrophy or other physical disabilities to act as volunteer facilitators in our MuscleFacts educational program. We are searching for people with disabilities, family or friends, health care professionals, educators, or any community members seeking to build awareness on disability-related issues. This program highlights the importance of inclusion for students with physical disabilities within the school system, and the greater community.

The MuscleFacts educational program consists of school and community workshops, a School Resource guide, and a Parent Guide. The program is complimentary and its success relies on its volunteer facilitators.

An ideal MuscleFacts facilitator will:
-          Be willing to talk and lead activities with groups of children and adults
-          Attend a Muscular Dystrophy Canada MuscleFacts facilitator orientation and training session
-          Be available during typical “school hours” (Monday to Friday, 9:00AM to 3:00PM, if possible)
-          Independently organize transportation to workshop locations and outreach events - current locations include the Lower Mainland of British Columbia, Alberta, and Manitoba (we are looking to expand the program to other regions, so if you live elsewhere, do not hesitate to contact us!)
-          Have a personal experience with a physical disability or with people with physical disabilities/disabilities
-          Be passionate about creating inclusive spaces, and raising awareness about Muscular Dystrophy and other physical disabilities
-          Make a difference in the community!

If you fit some of these qualities, or are excited at the notion of the program, please e-mail navi.dasanjh@muscle.ca. The MuscleFacts program is an exciting opportunity to engage community members in disability-related issues, and improve public speaking and group facilitation skills!
